Interlibrary Loans

Interlibrary loans give you access to items not owned by, or currently unavailable at, the Ishpeming Carnegie Public Library. There are three different modes of borrowing from other libraries with which we share materials.

  1. Patron Initiated Interloans (PIIs): are items loaned from other local libraries in northern Michigan. These items generally take 7-10 days to arrive and must have been published 60 days prior to the request date. These items may be requested through our online Library Catalog: click on the left-most drop-down menu and select Resource Sharing Libraries to see items available to request.
  2. MeLCat: is the interloan program that finds items at libraries across the entire state of Michigan. These items generally take 7-10 days to arrive and must have been published 3 months prior to the request date. These items may be requested through MeLCat; please always check the local online catalog before placing a MeL request! MeLCat is a free service provided by the Library of Michigan
  3. WorldCat: is the interloan program that finds items at libraries from states other than Michigan. This service is used for the hardest to find print materials. Librarians will search for items unavailable through the first two modes of borrowing. Please contact the library at 486-4381 or in person to request an item through WorldCat. There is no known time frame during which the item is expected to arrive and items must have been published at least 6 months prior to the request date.
