(ISHPEMING, MI) – The Ishpeming Carnegie Public Library (ICPL) is happy to announce a Winter Reading Challenge that is set to begin on January 1, 2024.

ICPL’s Winter Reading Challenge is open to all ages—babies through adults are welcome to participate in the fun! The challenge will take place January 1st through the 31st. People of all ages are invited to participate by logging their reading and/or submitting book reviews. Individuals can use Beanstack to track their reading online by downloading the Beanstack app or visiting ishpeminglibrary.beanstack.org. Additionally, participants can submit book reviews either via Beanstack or by turning in paper review slips to the library. Participants who log reading or submit reviews during the Winter Reading Challenge in January will be entered to win gift cards kindly donated by Snowbound Books!

In addition to the reading challenge, the library has an exciting lineup of programs happening throughout the month. January marks the start of a new year, which means it is the perfect time to take a look at goal setting for the year or try something new. On January 6th from 11am-2pm, Amy Turner from the Apiary Life Studio will be at the library to give a guided Vision Board Workshop for adults. Registration for this event is required– please visit ishpeminglibrary.info/calendar/ for information on how to register or call the library at 906-486-4381. ICPL is also excited to announce that a lot of their programs throughout 2024 will focus on various hobbies! People can attend a hobby program at the library for free and learn something new. On Wednesday, January 3rd at 5:30pm and Thursday, January 18th at 2pm, Crochet Club and a Yarn Swap will be happening at the library and beginning supplies and instruction will be provided for people who want to learn how to crochet. On Friday, January 5th from 9am-5pm, there will be a Puzzle Swap for all ages happening in the Margert Dundon Reading Room at the library. Individuals are welcome to bring a puzzle (with all its pieces and in its box please) to exchange for a different puzzle of choice. Partridge Creek Farm will be giving a presentation at the library on composting on Saturday, January 20th from 2pm-4pm. Also, the new year is the perfect time to join a book club! ICPL’s general Adult Book Club will meet on Tuesday, January 16th at 2pm and Wednesday, January 17th at 6pm to discuss Horse by Geraldine Brooks.

Nicole Johnson, Librarian at the Ishpeming Carnegie Public Library states: “I hope the Winter Reading Challenge at ICPL provides a fun and encouraging way for people to start the reading year off strong!”
